I've been calling around Chicago area to have my Coronet R/T rear bumper rechromed, and the going price is in the $400 range, with me doing the dropping off & picking up, with a 4 to 8 week turn around time depending on the shop. I'd like to stay local to avoid shipping costs. I'd also been looking online for reproduction bumpers for 1970 Coronet, but I can't find them anywhere. Are these being reproduced by anybody? All I can only find 68-69 repro's. I am not sure if these are interchangable with the 70.

$400 does seem kind of high to me, but the rechromers know there aren't too many business' doing this kind work any more because of the EPA, and of course, they still need to make a profit.
Still don't know if 70 Coronet repop's are out there or if they are, what they cost.
If you need a couple places to call here (Chicago area) to compare prices, PM me and I can give you the ph. numbers. They gave me prices right over the phone without even seeing the bumper.

400 is not bad for a quality chrome job. i'd much rather have an original mopar bumper that has been replated as opposed to a Chinese reproduction. 
unions....the folks who brought you the weekend!

It looks like I'll be rechroming since repops are NA.
The shop I spoke with will repair a couple small dents, and rechrome for just over $400 out the door.
Can anyone here that has had rechrome work done recently tell me what I should exect with the redplating process and how to know if the work being done won't be peeling off in a year or two?

well the first thing I would do is an internet search--surely people have posted something about their experiences. You can ask if they do Trivalent or Hexavalent chrome. Hex is nasty stuff and heavily restricted, Tri is a 'little' more environmentally friendly.
Hex can produce a better look that we're all after, when done right.
Given the choice, I would choose a hex shop.
You expect them to plate a heavy amount of copper, then level it (sand/buff) thats how they remove surface imperfections. Ask.
Ask what level of 'straightness' you can expect. Thats pretty subjective though.
You want a shop that knows you are expecting "show-quality" --again subjective, but at LEAST make sure they talk the talk.
Some people are concerned about the backside of bumpers--do they do ANY smoothing of the back surface? If YOU care, ask.

Thanks for all the advice about the chrome plating.  I called one of the local shops I spoke to yesterday and was told he uses Hexavalent, and guarantees his work for 3 years.

no idea who he's going to send it to, but I have had EXCELLENT service and quality from a shop in Piqua Ohio. D&D Brightworks or something to that effect, been a few years since I took anything to them, so I can't remember their name, but they're on the south side of downtown piqua in a tiny little building. when I take stuff in, they can't give a quote, they just say "time and materials, don't want to give you an inaccurate quote" if the part is super straight and only needs a "scuff, dip, buff" then it'll be a lot cheaper than if they need to metal work it to get dents and stuff out.
they do all their chrome work in house too, no shipping out to another place.

Still waiting on a quote from the plater after my dad dropped it of last Tuesday. 
In the end, I think I'd rather have the original bumper to the car rechromed even if it takes a little longer and costs a little more. 
Can't WAIT to see how much the cost has gone up since 1993. 
So now, I guess I'm going to try one other semi-local chrome plater and if they don't pan out, it'll got to Tri-City.
