Good afternoon, happy Friday to everyone!! While reading posts and whatnot, I came across a guy who had sublime green valve covers on his 5.7. My Sublime AAR NEEDS this! however, I can't find any hi-temp engine paint in that green. Do you all think regular laquer would hold up on just the valve covers? Thanks everyone!

Dupli-color should be close, they have a Grabber Green (Lime) in Hi Temp. I don't know if it's close enough for you. Check your local parts store that sells Dupli-color they might have it, if not you can order it.

Normally I wouldn't be that picky, but I just finished the entire engine compartment with Sublime laquer in the rattle can. (It's officially licensed from Chrysler). So, I would be afraid there would be a noticable difference betwixt the two. I can pick up a can and give it a shot though, thanks!

Regular paint on some VC's ? ... good-luck with that. ON TOP of the head and near the exh mans ...

YOU CAN go to a big paint operation and have them color-match some true hi-temp engine paint.

Maybe if you use a Hi Temp primer on the covers first and then shoot them with the paint you already have you most likely would be OK. It don't hurt to try. I don't think the covers get all that hot anyway. Worst case scenario you would have to do them again.

I didn't pay much attention at the time but I was thinking there was a thread w a few complaints about dupli-color rattle cans. I'd suggest w Doc said, it'd b more $$ but you'll get over the extra cost/effort when you pop the hood & see the results of your meticulous workmanship esp w a dead on color match

RR .... more money ? .. roger that. I have never done it me-self but I hear that it is about 20 beans per can. BUT you can spend up-to 8 clams per can for regular run-of-the-mill black engine enamel.

RR it could be the prep wasn't done properly. I did mine with Dupli-color and they look great and have held up well. I did spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning and prepping because I didn't want to do them again real soon.

You don't need hi temp paint on valve covers. Or anywhere else on the engine really. If you paint the intake manifold with regular paint and don't block the heat crossover it will burn off. Also have seen Pontiac v8s burn the paint off the center exhaust ports on the heads when using regular paint. Valve covers are not a problem. I like using urethane paint. I even have body filler in a pair of mine. I doubt that they get much hotter than a black car hood on a sunny summers day. I have had gasoline eat that Duplicolor engine paint right up and leave the etch primer intact.
