I am getting close to painting my project and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the modern version of plum crazy. Is it the same color just modern paint? Any info would be appreciated.

Al

The new one is a different color (darker and more intense) and of course all modern paints are different than the old stuff.
It's also base coat/clear coat. Talk to your supplier, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
NOTE that many here have found that the modern interpetation of the original FC7 color varies a lot from different manufacturers. If you go to a large show, you will see a half dozen different shades. Some of this is due to application differences, but if you want a true match, you need to find an original and do spray-outs to refine the application.

I noticed the same thing with the Hemi Orange ones too.

When I repaint my original FC7 cuda I will be using a base/clear. I was wondering if there is a benefit with the new plum crazy versus the old color or if it would just be my preference for the shade I like since it won't be original anyway...

Just as stated, many diff variations of the orig FC7.
I chose the new plum crazy because it looks great and the color will remain consistent as compared to the original.

frankly the factory color wandered/varied also
i have seen a factory paint plum crazy challenger parked next to a factory paint InViolet cuda.
the challenger was more metalic with a lighter appearence sort of mauve- pastel almost like lipstick-ish color
the cuda was more like candy less metalic more like grape juice in a glass..it was a noticable difference more opaque..deeper..
side by side lots of people had commented about it..at the time
FWIW..

My '07 plum Charger was in a bad accident last year, $13k worth of damage. At the time I was told there were at least 2 variations of the color listed, and neither matched my car! I ended up springing to have the whole car painted to have no problems in the future and to make it look right. Not a huge deal since 3/4 of the cars panels had damage anyway. But I was surprised that they couldn't get a good match on the paint on a new car.

What I will probably do is have my paint guy paint several samples of different formulas and choose the shade I like most. Thanks for the input/comments.

That's the best way to do it. Depends on whether he tints the primer or uses a white or black primer if they don't............

Have them shoot a junk fender or something, don't go with a 1/2" by 1" tile.....
