.010 too much, or .001? Considering spec is .007, ten thou over that is a bunch.
One thou over? I probably wouldn't sweat it.

Another comment. 383 forged cranks are a dime a dozen. If you are that much over, just find a different crank.

I'm messing with a center thrust crank bearing on a 383, does anyone make an oversize bearing to reduce the crank end play? I thought I read once its available. I got about .010 too much end play. If available any sources? Thanks, Wolfe.
Check the thrust surface on the crank, if it is not smooth now what do you think it will do to a new main bearing, stock or oversize You need to find out, if it is not smooth, what caused the damages and fix that before replacing the center thrust bearing

Its defiantly .010. Total is .019, I would even settle for .009. In fact it must have been running for a while that way, engine was rebuilt in 2000 by the last owner and I can't see or believe it wore that fast, I don't think they checked it. We pulled the motor for other reasons. While out I dropped the pan to look things over and that's when I found it. It looks like a new crank is needed. I called around for an oversize bearing and was told to talk to King Bearing, they sometimes have unique offerings with bearings. Yet to do this.
Likely a new crank will be my only option as someone suggested. It can't obviously stay this way.

So it's .019 with a new thrust bearing or the one put in 2000? If with the old bearing,I'd try a new one....could be crank end-play was never set in 2000,causing accelerated wear on the thrust bearing.
I already got a new one, had to buy the whole darn crank main bearing set to get it. I put it in and took measurement. Hardly any difference between the old one and the new one, the new one gives me approx .002 less play and brings it down to .017.

Ok makes sense now. Stick or auto? Looser than I'd like for sure. Sounds like oversize bearing(I've never seen or used one?) or crank time.
Its an auto, 70 roadrunner convertible with A/C. Its rarely thrashed, mostly cruising mileage.
