hello all. i'm relatively new to the mopar scene and i just bought a 1968 coronet rt. it has the original 440 and mech fuel pump in it.

i jacked it up the other day and i see a return fuel line in the front of the tank that is plugged.

i'm wondering where the return line is supposed to go.

is there a supply line and a return line in the system?

thanks, rob.

Welcome aboard Rob. Is this an extra capped line from the sending unit circular flat next to the main fuel line?

yes it is. it's on the front of the tank right next to the supply line.

looks to be about 5/16 or 1/4 inch. it has a small section of hose on it and a crimped and soldered copper tube hose clamped into it.

It's an aftermarket sending unit w this provision to install a return line if needed. A return line (to it) from a T at the carb inlet will keep the fuel much cooler as it is constantly moving/recirculating as opposed to stagnating/moving slowly and picking up heat from close proximity to the eng and a high psi pump can also use this type of return w a regulator in series in the line to regulate the psi in addition to the cooler fuel advantage. If your good on those 2 areas you're fine as is & prob it's a 3/8" sending unit (slip a 3/8 open end wrench over the main line metal nipple coming out of the sending unit to check). EDIT the main line not the smaller capped nipple your inquiring about. MORE EDIT I'm wondering if this orig had a vapor return fuel filter w the extra nipple that would have gone back to the capped line & if so that sending unit may very well b OE. Any indications of there being a return line from the tank forward (any clips etc) that would shed some light on this. I'm not a B body guy so I'm not sure
