i recently bought a six pack setup (YES!) and it is pretty nice. the only thing wrong with it (and the reason the previous owner is selling it) is the choke horn was milled off for 'racing'. *eyeroll* is there any way to save the center carb or do i need to pony up for a new one. i don't have any pics yet...

it's not repairable.

so it's either live with it as is, or sell it to a racer and buy a new one.

Run without it... Seriously how many days when it's cold out are you gonna be taking the car out?

roger that. i think i'll try it 'as is' and if it becomes a problem i'll replace it with one that isn't modified.

if "factory correct appearance" does not matter, run it like it is.

we milled the horn off my 650 on my boat and my thoughts were that if it was cold enough to need a choke to start it, it is way too cold to be running it anyhow.

it is pretty cool up here in washington, even on summer mornings. i am not too worried about 'factory correct' - i am going more for a day 2 look (i think thats what they call it). i just want to make sure it will run properly..

does anyone have any pics of the part that was milled off? i am away from home and it is difficult to see it in my head.

choke horm give the choke butterfly something to seal up against I run a cold intake with the heat crossovers blocked off and with the choke flapper zipped tied open foot choke it with the gas pedal and let it rip and you got it right Day2 is it m

Here's a four barrel, two barrel would be similar...

In this case I would just remove the choke flap assembly , all it's doing is messing up the air flow

Just a cleaner path for the air to get into the carb .

And with an air cleaner,it probably wouldn't make any difference.

It reportedly increases the air flow through the carb by 50+ CFM.

I thought venturi diameter and size of components restrictions inside the venturi such as boosters, thickness of throttle plates, shafts etc determined how many cfm's a carb would flow, removing the air horn would change none of the above.

It unshrouds the openning allowing for increased airflow to the parts you've described.

MAYBE more like 10-15 CFM,...the turbulence that carb is going to see across the air bleeds is going to be more of a nusiance esp at part throttle to WOT,...IMHO for street use, replace either the body, or get another carb,...OR modify a K&N stub stack for a Holley 2300 2 bbl(pn#85-0210) to fit your 2300 series 6 pack center, the stub stack is plastic, easy to mod,...it will help direct the airflow properly thru the now missing airhorn, the airhorn does alot more than just hold the choke plate, it basically helps control the transitional changes the carb will go thru as you alternate the throttle position during driving,...the secondary system (end carbs) are a completely different "animal", and don't require venturi/air bleed modulation like the primary (center) carb requires for smooth street driveability
