I just finished welding a rear fuel sump onto a new gas tank that I purchased and figured I would post the pics just in case someone was considering doing the same, my old tank was rusty so I figured what better time for an upgrade. The tank is for my 67' Barracuda coupe..the car has a 440 with aprox 625 hp and I was wondering what fuel pump I should purchase, the sump has dual 1/2" outlets and I was anticipating buying a holley "black" pump at the least..does that sound about right. I also plan to run a holley blue pump connected to the pickup, wich I put a 3/8 unit in years ago, to fuel a 175 horse NOS kit.

I plan to use my 850 holley with a proform main body for the new motor wich has cnc ported Eddy performer heads by modern, the carb I assume flows around 920ish. I also looked at the magnafuel pumps wich have the return outlet instead of deadheading my fuel system, anybody have any ideas?

nice work!! buy a Holley HP150, their great pumps and a little quieter than the old blue's and they still don't need a return

Nice job.
I had to MIG mine , but it worked O.K.
I was a little gun shy about burning through , but either I got lucky or am getting better at welding.
I went with holes in the tank too..........last sump I used , I had it done and the guy cut a big rectangle out where the sump went.
But the thought of a bit of control over sloshing was a no brainer.
I used a BG 220 HR for a similar output small block , but those pumps are headed the way of the brontosaurus.
I wanted something that wouldn't balk at continuous use , since the car will see a fair bit of street miles.
With 1/2" or #8 line , you should be O.K. with a Holley Black.
I tend to go for overkill , but a lot of guys use them in some pretty quick cars.

I have the -8 in the car already and like I said will be leaning toward the black pump. The old mechanical Clay Smith pump took me to the 11.40's, but this new motor should have more fuel requirements.

Just upgraded to the Holley black (actually it's chrome & black) on my 630-or-so-HP SB (low-10s). Seems a better pump than my old Blue pump, quicker rise on the PSI gauge.
My '70 Duster has basically same undercarriage as your Barracuda.
I mounted the pump on the rear crossmember (rear body panel), under the car, close to the spare tire well. Clocked it so the feed from the tank is directly aimed at it. I run the line (1/2" hardline with hoses @ ends to allow flex) forward along the inside of the Rt frame rail then cross it over to outside the subframe connectors and up into the Rt apron to a bulkhead fitting. Big fuel filter (no restriction) before the pump. Check the ID of all your fittings, as some actually neck down.

I was intending on feeding the pump with both outlets by putting a Y before the pump and using a 100 micron filter. I can only assume that the Fram canister filter is not up to the task of keeping up with the Holley black pumps flow rate. I was planning on mounting the pump to the passenger frame rail, should I fab up a guard so I dont coat the pump with rubber from the burn-out box? Are there any relays that I should or should not use, or just by any kit thru summit or jegs, my battery is already mounted in the trunk.

Heres mine when it still had the blue pump on it, the new billet black pump is in the same location.

If you mount the pump on the inside of the frame rail you won't have much rubber to contend with Your choice

I have the same idea in mind, do you have a filter before the pump or is it after, or is there none at all?

The filter is after the pump.

Should run the filter in front of the pump. As they say , pay me now or pay me later, You don't want any crap running into the pump.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Yeah, seeing as how I just hole sawed (6) 3" holes in the tank, im a bit concerned about metal shavings. I did shopvac the tank real good while blowing air into it and tipping it at all angles, but im sure there is still desbirs in the tank somewhere.Ill put my filter ahead of the pump, I seen where some have threaded the filter right into the pump and I like that idea.
