its very inspiring to read about mild combos yall have had success with.. certainly with the 509 hyd cam. my budget is probably not going to allow adjustable valvetrain so if im stuck with stock type stuff the 509 looks like my answer. ive actually called james at UD and he has a nice 247 533 lobe that would work good too. heres the combo what do you think? thanks
1974 dodge dart sport 3550lbs with me 440 2295's ly rods arp bolts cast crank (approx 11.0 CR) fully ported stealth alum heads 320 cfm torker2 intake ported to match heads 850 holley 2 inch pro parts 3 inch duals with x pipe built 727 with 4k "race" tci converter (will restall to ??? it wants) ford 8.8 31 spline 3.73s 26 inch slicks. 6k shift point? id be thrilled to see some lower 7's in the 1/8th

I went 11.52 with almost the same combo in a 383 Demon.Used 906 heads and more gear/larger tire,750 Holley.I'd agree you might need more gearing. But should run 7.20 easily.

I'd try and use a good 9.5" vert around 4400. PTC sells one cheap for what you get. That combo should run low 7's all day long.

Those 8.8's are dang strong. The combo sounds good and Id be surprised if it didnt run that or better. I ran a 493 with Box stock eddy heads with a 509hyd and it ran strong for sure.

The gearing is fine, with those 3.73 gears and 26" slicks, you have slightly more gearing then a 4.56/32" slick combo. Your stalls a little low, 4500 would be better. The Torker II will hurt the launch @ 3550# with a 4000 rpm vert costing you some ET. Its got the potential to run 7.20,s IMO Your combo is similer to mine but 600# heavier. Ive run mid 10.40,s Add a 600# ballast ET penalty to my car and it would be running 7.20,s IMO So you should be able to run near that too.IMO

I think easy low 11s/7.20s even with a 509 cam. I wouldn't worry about gearing its not bad with a 26" tire. Your stall will work fine too. The 509 is not optimal for this engine but you probably already know that. If you must run a hydraulic id find something with similar duration and more lift. Id recommend you check out the comp xe295hl. It has .561 lift and is 251@050.

There is no way I would NOT put adjustable rockers on this motor You've spent a ton of money already getting mostly good parts, don't stop now Wait a little longer to buy a decent set of adjustable rockers and pushrods to match, the stock stamp steel rockers are not precise at all on the rocker ratio To be truthful a lot of the aftermarket rockers are not that great either but there way better than the stock stuff
many folks have run 509 cams w/ non-adjustable valve train. It's hydrolic. I ran a bad butt 383 w/ a 509 and heavy duty rockers, shafts an push rods. So have many of my friends. I don't think it will hurt at all but he would pick up a few HP with roller adjustables.

i see no problems with your et goal. the 4000 stall is ok,but a 5000 is better -worth about 1/10 on my 440.i picked up et and mph going from a 3.9 to a 4.1 gear, both with 28" tyre. your motor doesn't know how old the 509 is,but your heads may appreciate a bit more lift. i run 7 teens/twentys. yes i shift at 6000 Tex

These are galled pretty good.....
I would, and have , send them to Rocker arm Specialitys, PH# 530-378-1075, and have them bush, rocker ratio changed to 1.6 and blueprinted Buy there shafts, bolts and hold downs at the same time, no more problems ever after that I use there bushed and blueprinted ductile iron rockers (of all brands)on a lot of my solid flat tappet and hydraulic lifter motors
