Can anyone recommend a really good shop in the Pittsburgh area (I live near White Oak/McKeesport/Irwin) that knows their stuff when it comes to aligning our old Mopars?

72 Barracuda, and I need to have it aligned. Want a shop that knows what they are doing on these old cars.

Thanks for the help!

I'm not in Pittsburgh but look for an older shop, as a lot of the new alignment machines don't have data for the older cars. Maybe the local Mopars clubs can help you out there. I was lucky to find a shop that is able to do my 63. Good luck.

Jim

I also would like to find an old school shop. I swapped to tubular control arms and still didnt get the +caster i was looking for(although i may have a frame issue). laser,4wheel strut shops i dont think are my answer.

its more the operator then it is the machine. just have to find a guy that knows what he is doing. the guy you don't want is the guy that will follow the red and green lights for the alignment. most likely where you will want your alignment will be all in the red because it won't match the specs from 40+ years ago when bias ply tires were the norm.

Butt's Alignment in Mt. Pleasant. Old school at its best. Has you sit in the car for weight and still balances the wheels on the car.

Also Russell's Autobody in Charleroi, long time mopar guy and racer. Usually has a nice amount of vintage autos around the shop.

Couple places just dawned on me...

Chuck's Auto Service on O'Neil Blvd. in White Oak. One of the mechanics has a couple of Chargers, they always have a steady stream of old cars in and out of there when the weather is nice.

The Meineke on Walnut St. in McKeesport, near Auto Supermarket and Tri-Star Ford. They have a '70 Dart in there right now they are fixing up for someone.

I've also seen some older cars being repaired at J&K Amoco, across from Chuck's Auto Service. I don't know if they do alignments though.

re: The meineke on walnut....That is one of the first shops I took my fish to, to have the guy install my Magnaflow exhaust system.

My dad used to take his rides there years ago for exhaust work and was always happy so I figured it was a good choice.

Won't go there ever again!

He hacked it.....I had to keep after them, to replace the pipes they hacked and the collectors they screwed up and the owner gave me a huge hard time. I had the exhaust removed and redone by the meineke on rte 30 in Irwin ........now THAT is a great shop as far as exhaust.

..i don't know what your shop is like but you can do this.
upper a arm ... front bushing all the way out, rear bushing all in
bring rear bushing out until wheel is vertical ( + or - 1)
... adjust toe in 1/8"
this should get you quite close with as much caster as possible
until you can have it checked properly.

WOW talk about bringing back memories. Growing up 20+ years ago, my father and grandfather wouldn't let anybody do alignments except for Butt's

Cool! Saw you cruising up 48 a few weeks ago. Nice car!

Thanks for the info on the Meineke, I'll stay away as well if I ever need any of that type of service.
