I'm pretty close to getting my Road Runner on the road. I'm in the process of redoing the brakes.

The fender tag isn't coded for front disc brakes, but the car has them. So I'm guessing that someone swapped over a long time ago?

The rotor is almost 11" in diameter and almost 1" thick. Its too thin to machine. So I was hoping to buy a rotor and use my existing hub, spindle, adapter plate etc..

How do I measure to make sure I get the correct rotor that will fit on the spindle? Also, how do I size new inner and outer bearings correctly?

Centic has a rotor for a 70 RR that looks like it might fit but it states 2.81" hub register. What does that mean? The measurements of my existing hub/rotor are all smaller than that?

There is no play and everything rotates fine before I dissembled. But the rotors are shot from sitting since 1985.

Any help would be appreciated, I'll attach some pics...

Tom

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the later 1 piece rotors. Contact Dr Diff and use his adapter sleeve.

Thats a good idea. I bought from Cass before. I didn't realize he was a disc brake guru too.

I think I have to start by identifying which steering knuckle I have. Hopefully he can help me ID mine.

Since my existing setup has a two piece rotor, does that mean I definitely have the 70-72 B/E body steering knuckle?

Most likely, take a few measurements and compare to this. It's the 73-76 larger bearing spindle. Yours most likely is a little taller and takes the smaller bearing.

Thanks, that helps greatly. I'll do some measuring and give Cass a call on Monday.

Hopefully it will be as easy as buying his spindle adaptors and then going with a later year one piece rotor.

it is as easy as that. I'm running his spindle sleeve on my 71 challenger. I also ended up upgrading to the bigger Cordoba rotors (11.75") and used the pin type adapter so I didn't even need to disconnect my calipers!

Good to know, I ordered from DR DIFF yesterday.

Thanks!

The only surprise was that the rotors wouldn't fit over the lip on my dust shields.

I was lucky and had another set that didn't have the amount of raised lip. So it seemed to work out well.

The dust shield with the shorter lip is from a 73 & up vehicle.. In order to keep my stuff looking like 70 vintage I actually use the early shield but I cut the raised area off....

Is your tag coded B51?

Yes it is. Is B51 the code for power brakes or power disc brakes?

I would have thought to see B41 if my car was originally disc brake. I don't see a separate disc brake code on my tag. Just B51.

I thought of doing that too. But I happened to have these other shields in my stash

I don't think the G-plant stamped the tags with B41. My buddies all original documented '70 RR ragtop just has the B51 stamping and is a disc brake car.
