My customer wants to replace the glass in his Charger with date coded reproduction glass. He has chosen PS AUTO GLASS http://www.psautoglass.com/ and wants to know if anybody in the OE Chrysler world has used these guys? Apparently they are very reputable in the GM world. He is aware of ECS.

Hey guys. Just a quick note about OE style glass. PS Glass was the supplier to ECS about 5 years ago. It was the style that many of you complained about regarding the fit and finish. It also was notorious for the severe tempering stripes that was also unacceptable to many of the end users. PS Auto Glass is not licensed to use the correct Chrysler logos and date codes. I doubt that they would even know the variations that were used for the different vehicles, depending on the date of production and the styles used by manufacturing plants.

The only glass that I have seen that is on the money and has the correct logos is from ECS. They support the Mopar hobby with detail the others don't do. Why would you cut a corner with a GM glass company? I know ECS sells Charger glass - with the plant specific logos and date codes. Pretty sure no one else does that - only other option would be NOS glass which probably won't have the date code you need. Good Luck - Dave

I questioned the owner's motives and I was the one who suggested ECS to him in the first place. In his own words he told me that... "although their (ECS'S) etching is supposed to be the best, I heard their glass is crap" I don't want to start this thread in the wrong direction, I was just trying to get honest input on other possible suppliers? The owner is doing his own research and will ultimately make is own decision.

Alan, I have used various glass, with mixed results. My biggest complaint is the curvature of the door glass-it's not the same as original, and it causes two problems-it makes it difficult to roll up and down, and it doesn't match the quarter glass perfectly.
Having said all that, I used a complete set of ECS glass on a 68 Charger and was happy with the quality. I most recently used a complete set on a 69 Raod Runner and it all fit nice, except the rear glass, which was warped on one corner. I ended up finding an NOS rear glass. ESC was great, as usual, with their return of the faulty glass.
Finding consistency in the glass seems to be a problem also. ECS now has original glass to compare to the new glass they are sending out, and the latest side glass was pretty nice.
NOS PPG glass is, of course, the ultimate deal but almost impossible to find now days.

I bought side glass from PS once. Never again. Garbage glass - wrong contour. Holes wrong. Poor edges. All around junk. And then they would not take it back or give me any money back. I have installed AMD side glass with no issues.

Avoid them ! Also, beware - there are some otherwise reputable parts dealers currently passing the PS Autoglass stuff off as Date Coded ECS glass that they just "ended up with". It's just not good quality. I have and recommend AMD's glass. They have a good new supplier.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

Hi Guys,
AMD is not a vendor for ECS and never has been. In fact you can't get date coded glass from them. Remember that even the Pentastar etching is not a universal one size fits all among the different body styles / plants. Some glass companies just use a universal pentastar that really doesn't fit any of the prior cars correctly. For more glass info dig into your archives and pull out the January 2008 Mopar Collectors Guide and there is a detailed article on correct glass markings and variations.
We supply some of the top restorers in all brands. In fact Ted Stephens Red Hemi Charger restored by Ken and crew at Finer Details which scored a perfect score at the Chicago show and has been in several magazines recently has ECS date coded glass in it.
Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. We have worked hard to bring a great product to market. If you want correct, date coded glass for your vehicle we'll be glad to help you out.

I am not saying AMD has date coded glass. I know the AMD glass is sans date codes. I thought ECS at some point was using the Correct thickness glass AMD supplied. Let me refrase my question. Does ECS use the same glass (manufacturer) that AMD uses? If not does anyone know who actually manufactures the glass for either ECS or AMD??? Shouldn't really be a big mystery, but it seems to be. ed

ECS Cuda door glass is BETTER than OEM. I know, I have both. The ECS glass is smoother and has less tempering signs than the original glass on the other side. NOT CRAP.
Great comparison
I ran across the same thing on a 74 Challenger I bought used in 1977 just before joining Chrysler. Along the way when it was a driver it got it's nose bruised by the wife and needed a front bumper. This is around 1979 and the bumper is NS1 - no longer serviced by Chrysler, no depot stock but one of my dealers had one in stock and was more than glad to sell it since it had been on the shelf for a while. Fast forward through the years of storage at the parents house to the restoration. Back bumper gets chromed and when I laid out the NOS front bumper it was night and day. New chrome was almost too good. The NOS not nearly as nice and had an area that looked like someone had thrown a handfull of shavings in the chrome - rough to the touch and the cleaning rag always caught on the area no matter how much polish was on the bumper.
The moral to this story is sometimes the NOS parts are not those show quality parts we hope for today. They were just "production" pieces back then. We've all got our individual stories with NOS pieces.

how much does a date coded windshield cost from ECS? and are there local dealers? and if not, where does it come from? my 69 charger is delaminating, I bought a replacement windshield, but have thought about selling it and getting something more correct. since my car has air, it needs a tinted one.
