if you remove the stock wheelhouses, you'll need to put a cage in it. the stock wheelhouses are structural elements, and your car will fold in half without 'em. i'm pretty sure the stock ones can be widened without having to add a cage.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I'll disagree with that...My 71 Demon has had he OEM tubs cut out and steel chassis shop tubs installed. Not welded to the car at all and I have a roll bar that has the rear down braces end where the back seat is.Car has been this way since 1981 and no problems with the body at all,and it hooks great.

Would be interested in doing it for you, here is how we do ours. Basically just extend the tub to the frame rail.

Looks good.
I know how to do it, but I don't have a welder.
Where are you located?
Any chassis shops in Cleveland/Akron area?
