Hi guys,

Looking to see if anyone can post pics of original untouched 318 & 340 engines so I can reference & verify some details? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I have a 71 340 Duster that is relatively untouched, other than a cam swap years ago.Let me know if you can use it.

I just emailed you a boat load of pictures of a 1971 Demon that I saw at Mopars at the strip a few years back. Hope they help.

Mike be careful using 340's for detail references when doing a 318, plenty of variables between them and 318's as well as plenty of variables between 70's and 71's. FWIW I was one of the O.E. Judges who judged the orange Demon at Vegas, it was very nice and scored a Silver in it's class (Survivor) but the top end of the engine had some restoration repairs done due to what was believed to be a small carb fire in it's past, accordingly It's not 100% untouched original under the hood.

You may find it difficult to find 100% original/survivor 1970 318 photos in any kind of short time span mainly (sadly) due to lack of interest in getting good details from them and because so many were modified, had engine swaps, or simply don't exist anymore.

Scott, can you list a few of the 318/340 differences that you've found?

What ever happend to that purple 1970 or 71 Challenger 318 that Carlisle gave away several years ago?

If I remember right it was a real low mileage car

When I was redoing my former 1970 Challenger 340 . I had saved dozens of underhood shots of unrestored small block E-body shots but lost them all on a PC crash about 3 years ago

There's a lot, big stuff; engine color, valve covers, intakes, carbs, air cleaners, exhaust manifolds, wire harness, linkage, fuel lines, etc.

I meant the not so obvious stuff.

I'm sure the same process was used on all the small blocks of a certain year. For instance, they wouldn't have installed the intake heater hose nipple after the engine was painted on one, and before paint on another. Painted the negative cable on one and not the other. One has a black dipstick handle and the other doesn't exc...

Don't be so sure, I never make assumptions like that even if they seemingly make perfect sense. You need to back up details with proof and facts, just as Mike is attempting to do with his survivor photo requests, especially when you are shooting for O.E. Gold level detailing.

If pictures from a 70 318 Barracuda will do, I should be able help you. I have a virgin sitting in my barn, haven't looked at it in years. If memory serves me correct it was pretty much untouched.

Yes please email the barracuda 318 pics that would be appreciated.

Scott, the 318 in this duster was very untouched except a few wear items that were replaced along with the carb being replaced. I am just looking for pics to verify if a few characteristics I found are on any others....

Thanks
Mike

That's good Mike, if it were a basket case you'd have a pretty steep hill to climb, good luck!

*BTW, that NOS choke pull off should be in my hands tomarrow so I can finish your carb build

It's great that people have pictures to send to Mike but why not post them here? Everyone posts big block pictures. Some of us care about the small blocks...even the lowly 318.

Here ya go. I couldn't remember what had been changed on this car since it has been so long since I looked at it. I can say for sure the belts, hoses, plug wires and I believe master cylinder have been changed. Maybe not what you are looking for. I wasn't sure just what you are wanting to see, so I didn't know what parts to hone in on. No lights in the barn, so not the best pictures. If there is something you need a better picture of let me know.

Dan
