I finally tore the 340 down from last year's breakage at Norwalk.

The good...........heads, valves, cam, lifters are all OK.

The bad............the block is going to need a sleeve but, will live.

Here's the ugly..........

If you ever get enough water or fuel in a cylinder to hydraulic
it, pull it apart and check the bearings. If it was real bad, it
might bend the rod too.

I was just curious cause they almost look like childs rods, and they Look like they held up well for what broke. Im sure it was buzzin pretty good too. My track master rods look similar to those.

Oh, thats no good. I like scat rods, they are in 3 engines Ive built, and they are so far OK. My 408 has the Childs track master rods in it, just because I got a screaming deal.

Do ya have another crank, I may have one laying around.

No problem. What RPM you run that? I see its bushed, so must be solid roller? How bout some specs?

Thats awsome.

I had a set of W2 heads off of a 340 in a rail that belonged to a fella in Fremont Nebraska. He ran through the traps at 9K, and you could have swore the thing was going to lift off too the moon. Those heads ended up being WAY to big for my set up at the time, and Jesse from Sioux City has them now. He screwed me pretty hard on the J heads I traded for.

NICE!! Those look like something from Harry Heads in Sioux CIty. He does pretty decent work IF he does it himself.

When an engine kicks over with a full cylinder, (previous firing piston, not starter)
it deforms the upper bearing. It's just a matter of time before it spins the bearing.

That's not right. From the pictures anyone can CLEARLY see it was an oil pan failure.

If that thing would have not filled with water it would have at least another 300 passes left on it.

I would have expected 200 passes without taking it apart.
I usually can't leave the engine alone that long.

I will put main studs in it and have the main bores touched up while it's at the shop.

Milodon 340 center sump pan for sale.
40 passes in a pump gas 340. Needs work.

I'm amazed at what the scat I beams can do. That's a revver!
Makes me feel a lot better about using them in my 408.

That Ol girl was at full song every-time she came out of the box and other than the parts she spit out the things they hit on the way it looked really good.The day it took a drink between rounds we most likely would have loaded it up but Vic was going into the semi final.I'm sure it will be better and faster next time out.

I picked up the block from the shop yesterday. It didn't require
the sleeve. Another .020" honed from the bore cleaned it up
surprisingly well. Only 2 visible "flicks" and well below ring travel.
White specks are just lint.

BIG 349.6" engine for 2011

looks possibly like trash got pushed into the brg from the oil. possibly the block was not cleaned correctly would be my guess. Or a rod was installed wrong.

349" is big for me.

There was only 1 youtube video from a few years ago, that I know of.

it is big in my book also,my 340 is still only .030"over,not making anywhere near the power you got but i like stock stroke smallblocks.

Thanks i can watch that over and over again
