After the installation of my throttle stop, my hood scoop is no longer tall enough for my 16x2 air cleaner assembly on my Holley Dominator so I'm going to run no air cleaner at all this year. I thought I saw a post on here where somebody had a screen type setup just to keep the big stuff out. Who makes them and any pics??? I wonder if the performance will be effected with no air cleaner???

Here's what I did. Got a Quick fuel air bell 11 inch diameter, added a K&N Extreme top 9 inch diameter. Better filtering than just screen.Fit under a 3 inch tall hood scoop. Both available at Jegs.

Yes and it is no different from with it on to without. Used it for 4 years now when I'm not running the dual 4 bbl STR intake.

I like what you did. You say there was NO difference in ET / MPH between the basic carb bell and when the K&N X-stream lid was added? What sort of times is that car running? And do you have that setup sealed to a hood scoop?

Just buy a short stack and wrap the screen around to
the back and use JB Weld to glue it in place... you
can glue a grommet in the center for the hold down

There was no difference from running with a no filter and no air bell to putting what you see in the pic. Car runs between 10.27 to 10.31 at 132 to 132.50 in spring and/or autumn condition.
It is not sealed to the hood scoop.

found the air bell at a swap meet 20.00
used mesh screen from home depot 10.00
the chrome trim around the top is nothing more than door edge guard 5.00

something else I made out of 6160 aluminum tubing for your roll bar to keep from messing up the paint

Cool... I wasn't able to find any flow data specific to the Xtream lids by themselves and was wondering if running only the lid like you show would cause a restriction. It must work OK based on your results.

This is a really good idea. I need a bigger scoop or a 4500 intake without the 2" adaptor. Does the 9" top seem to flow enough air through it? Do the carb vent tubes clear the bottom or did you have to cut them off a bit? Looks good Im going this route for sure!

Your local stereo shop has these in all sizes. Stereo speaker covers, the local shop give me mine. Drill a hole in the middle bolt them, notice mine is setting on the edge of the injector(carb.)not where the scoop tray sits. That way it does not affect the scoop height.

Did you try the 11" K&N top on that quick fuel bell?

The carb vents fit in between the filter ribs in the Xtreme top.
I've only used the 9 in top. Bought it 1st, it worked and I saw no need to spend additional $$$ on 11 inch top...

Bringing back a really old thread here, but I need a filter for the 950 HP and have an 11" K&N Extreme lid laying around, a Quick Fuel air bell is pretty cheap...Anyone else tried this?

I've also read the Extreme tops result in a HP loss when used with a filter so I was curious.

FYI: I have a functional forward facing hood scoop.

Thanks

The extreme lids will lose power(8 HP at peak, twice on two different motors, two different engine dynos and carbs ) on a engine dyno test but they will make the car with close hood scoops run faster(.030 Et ,3 MPH) at the track when tested against a steel lid on the air cleaner. That test was done on a Duster with a 440 motor using Dominator and a six pak style scoop IHTHs

The motor is offset to the passenger side in a Dakota so I either need to make an off set base or get a uni filter, it will still fit under the hood scoop even though it's off center.

That's why I was wondering about the QF bell housing and extreme lid

Nice job on that Ange, wonder if it would be better if you sealed it to the scoop.K&N does not make an extream top small enough for my set up,I was thinking about a screen set up for race days. The only thing I came up with would be a pair of strainers
