What are the street manners like on a J converter? Im sure Im being too general, as Im sure it depends on the rest of the combo, but do they tend to slip on the street, like an old TCI SF, or are they a "tight" piece?

Thanks

As long as you've got a good trans cooler I wouldn't get to concerned, I run an 8" all over the place. Can't tell much difference between an 8" and my old 10" until you nail the throttle. Dave

True story Eric; I joined a truck board a couple years ago. They for some reason thought I had a /6 in the truck and accused me of using bleach or tranny fluid to get my tires to spin and smoke for the picture in the signature. Heck, I left 2 holes in the asphault a couple inches deep. Dave

I have an 8 inch TA that drives very nice on the street.

Its not the size Im worried about, the design. Just wondering if they are generally a tight design, or more of a looser type converter. Or if its 100 percent subjective and depends on the combo the converter was built for.

Von, I have had three different converters in my Duster, street and strip car. The custom built(off of a engne dyno sheet) 10 inch(not a T/A) ran a best of 10.43 at 128.6 mph, a 9 inch T/A 069J built for a SS/AH motor ran 10:34 at 128.7 MPH in my car with a different trans but the same motor. I ended up switching motors again and the T/A 8 inch race converter for the same SS/AH motor as the 9 inch J converter was built for ran .26 quicker and almost 4 MPH faster in the 1/8 mile than the 10 inch did. The 10 inch was real tight when foot stalling it, it would slide the skinny front tires through the beams on the starting line at or above 2350 RPM The 8 and 9 inch where a lot looser down low but way quicker and faster at WOT The correct answer about converters is it depends on the brand and application I would get the numbers(all of them) off of the converter and call Turbo Action and ask them what it was built for and all the information you can get on it before buying it.(Hopefully it has not been altered by anyone else ) Turbo Action usually makes very good parts, especially trannys and converters

I had a J in my 440 and it was a little tight for my combo.
