Ok, I've finally had enough with this Thumpr cam. Too much for me.

I'm after a cam that will give me a LITTLE LOPE, not sound like a funny car. It must work with my A/C, auto trans (175k converter), and not shake the welds on the car loose. This is a cruiser, not a race car.

'70 Challenger
360 + .030
KB107 Pistons
596 Heads
Performer Intake
Edelbrock AVS 650 carb
Orange ECU
Headers + 2.5" exhaust with 40 series mufflers
2.76 gears at the moment but will be 3.23

I'll take your suggestions on a cam now...

Oh, and I know where you can score a slightly used Thumpr cam...

I have a Hughes HEH1523AL cam in my 360 RV engine and it's pretty mild at idle, but makes good power.
With your higher compression you could even use a bigger cam. It's the wider lobe seperation that reduces the overlap and helps the engine idle smoother.
I would suggest the Hughes HEH1928AL cam, 219/228 duration @ 0.050, 0.489"/0.524" lift, 111 LSA installed at 108.
This would compare to the 262 duration Voodoo cam, 220/226 @ 0.050", 0.475"/0.494' lift, 112 LSA installed at 108.
Or the Comp "XE262H", 218/224 @ 0.050", 0.462"/0.470", 110 LSA installed at 108.

Going with the next larger sized cam you may have to run a higher stall converter, and/or more gear.

The 360 in my Challenger conv is close to what you have. 360 + .030 with KB 107's, LD340 intake,340 HP exhaust manifolds, Hemi J converter, 3.23 sure Grip. Mine has this MP Purpleshaft cam in it, and it's perfect for this motor. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DCC-4452761/

I was very happy with the mopar .450/.455 cam and similar gears in a 76 (ie, heavy) valiant...good idle, good vacuum, got into the 13's with 2.94 gears....not too shabby.

Comp 268 cheap and powerful run the gear you have now
1968 340 manuel spec cam from racer Brown runs like scalded rabbit
Comp 280 real good power higher end needs gear 3.91 or better

I'd second the XE268. I run it my own similar 360. I have 3.91's now, but I ran it for about a year with 2.76's and it was still no dog.

It lopes a little when cold, but sounds pretty mild when warmed up.

I have a Scott Brown 268/285 in my 9:1 360, it's the same way, sounds mean (for the street)when cold , then tame once it warms up. '68 Barracuda with 9.5" converter and 3.55 SG. When it ran 13.75, it was suffering from fuel starvation, undiagnosed at the time. Want to get it back to the track this spring, should be 13.5 or lower if I can hook.

So the XE268 seems like the winner here. Anyone have any experience with this cam, automatic trans, and A/C?

k, so i am chiming in as i am getting a 360 built. Going with flat top pistons and 70 340 spec cam. Hoping that this should make some good power, idle with a bit of lope to it, but nothing wild. Will be using a stock stall converter, with 3.23:1 gears. . . .
