I bought a supposedly-rebuilt 340 a number of years ago. I'm now going to put it in a car and thought it prudent to have it torn down and checked.

The only marking on the cam is purple paint--which might imply Chrysler and the number "970799."

Anyone have an idea what I have?

Thanks.

Sure sounds like one of the classic "purple shaft" cams but all the #'s I found when I looked 4 it are "P" numbers EDIT but the P numbers are part #'s not casting #'s but no casting #'s in my MP catalogue

It's what we suspected, based on the guy who worked on the motor years ago; he's a Mopar Performance dealer.

Thanks very much.
