Hi guys. I decided to replace the front seal in my torqueflite before installing a rebuilt 340 in my car.
For the first time I had a hard time removing it. I've been told that some seals come with some kind of a glue on the casing to hold it after install.Anyway,I installed a new one in and now I'm ready to install the engine.
My question is about the garter spring that I don't remember seeing it after removal of the old seal .If by any chance the spring ended up falling off inside the tranny will it damage the trans, or will it end up in the trans pan or what?
I'll appreciate your advise.

You ARE NOT going to like this ....

IF that spring fell-out ... it is more likely IN the front pump...

NEED I say any more ?

if it was not running and you knocked it off the seal while R&R it

it should have been hanging there on the shaft

at most its the cost of another seal to take a good look for it

but I would look at the old seal first the look see if you see it behind the new seal

R&R it and look even deeper

All of em I've seen (not many diff types though) have the spring but I would have your parts house pull the same one off the shelf & over the phone tell you if it has a spring

This , if it came off it would be right there, it can't go very far, and if you didn't notice it you may have had trouble getting the converter back in.
