My 65 I just took the wires off.Used a small screw and nut to put them together and taped them up good. Then I installed an aftermarket Volt gauge.Been in for 15 years and no problems.Rocky

I added an extra wire from the battery stud of the alternator, with a fusible link and connected it to the battery stud at the starter relay. Done in ten minutes and no load on the ammeter. The bulkhead connector is the weakest link in the electrical system and has turned many Mopar drivers into pedestrians. I can suggest the MAD ammeter gauge bypass.... http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtmlHope this helps.

No need to disconnect both wires.. Just take 1 wire off either stud, and put the wire on the other stud with the other wire and snug down the mounting nut...
Just my $0.02..
