I'm sure that nearly anyone on this board could tell me where to find the wiring diagram for using an MSD 6 series box, but does anyone have a diagram handy for using the 8680 and a Chrysler orange box? I just bought the orange from Summit, so I don't want to upgrade to the MSD 6 just yet.

If it helps, it's brand new...I haven't even wired it in yet. The car is a '72 SSP, with a 400 which is currently points.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Must be used with a MSD ignition control.

Well, nuts.

Anyone want to buy an orange box, with wiring...pretty cheap?

I'm going to keep the disti, because I'm pretty sure that the MSD 6 will work with it...or will it?

Thanks to all contributors.

(1) w the rep that the orange box has (here) it's gonna b pretty hard to sell it & if it's till new I would for sure send it back to summitt. I believe you can use points to trigger the MSD 6

MSD used to make a standalone unit that provided up to 20 degrees of ignition retard, and could be used with just about any factory or after-market ignition, as it did the retard in the wiring to the ignition coil.
I can't remember the part number right now, but I bought one about 1999 and still have it in storage somewhere.
You might ask MSD tech support what the part number was, then search the web for a used one for sale.

There appears to be a way, in the wiring diagram, that the points disti will work with the MSD 6, but I was referring to using the electronic distributor which came with the kit...

I had planned to upgrade the car from points to electronic...but that was before I found the variable timing module. After I found that, I figured to put that in too.

I thought I saw in the diagram a method of hooking directly up to the electronic distributor...but are you saying that it can't be done that way?

I thought I also saw an instruction which said not to hook up the vacuum assist on the disti...now does that make any sense?

yes it does & was wondering that myself as I want to keep vac adv & w the dist just being a trigger & the vac adv is going to b changing the trigger point if/why that is a prob w it. I'm going to call MSD & ask em. EDIT they did tell me way back that the programmable (3 adjustments iirc) timing box they sell cannot b used w vac adv but this adjustable one, if I cant use vac adv it'll hurt me more than any gain I might get from their toy & pretty sure vac adv can b use w the one we are referring to
