Hello. I have a 360 that has a history of having a rear main seal leak. The crank does not have any hash marks on the seal surface. All the other cranks I have looked at have hash marks. I was told that either the seal or the crank has to have hash marks to seal properly. I cannot find a seal with hash marks. The crank measures .002 under std spec. on the seal surface. I was thinking someone could have possibly ground or polished off the hash marks. This crank dose have a nick right in line where the seal rides which Im sure has alot to do with the leak. I have slowed the leak way down in the past using a rope seal but I cannot find one. I also know a rope seal dose require hash marks which is probably why it still leaked. What do you guys think? If the crank doesn't need hash marks for a rubber seal to seal then it seems like the most logical thing to do is have the seal area welded up and reground or another option could be a offset lip seal with hash marks if someone makes one. Thanks for you're help

Id rather not change the crank. I internally balanced it so it has a lot of mallory metal in it. But if thats what I have to do then I will as a last option. Any other sugestions? Thanks Seth
