Can anyone post a nice pic of a space saver correctly installed on a 70 challenger. Thanks in advance.

Rob

Hardtop shown, a convertible would be a bit different.

1970 Challenger hdtp would have the hook mounted on top of the spare stud,...convert hook location would be in fiq, MOD 27

The hook goes under the tire only in convertibles I believe.
I posted a couple pictures of the spare setup in a couple unrestored Challenger hardtops in a thread recently, these were '71's but I think '70 would be the same.

Brad,...If you look at D designation (B-0-23) that hook is under the spare, (B-0-23) being (Barracuda-70-hardtop{23})....seems the 70 B/J hardtops are defined well, as is the vert (27),....the 71 years were rather "up in the air", although the print covers F/G series E body

Well shakerjoe and I were working on this for almost an hour yesterday and the question came up if my car came with a spacesaver tire being the the length of my sparerod was only eight inches...after decoding my build sheet we determined my car did come with the spacesaver that was with the car when I bought it. Now with this length of the rod and the inflate bottle and hook there is no way I can set the tire up in the with hook on top like in the picture. I can wedge it underneath or try to flip the tire..we will see.

That is the exact same issue I am running into with this '71 Challenger I bought last year. It had a empty trunk when I got it so I have been working on correcting that. Getting the car ready for MCACN last November, I put a spacesaver from another of my cars in there and tried to put the bracket and hook on the rod, but the rod was too short.
In the picture of that unrestored black hemi Challenger's trunk I posted in my thread, the hook is installed differently on top, but I can't see how it would be retained? If it is sitting loose, it is just going to fly off and rattle around the trunk as the car is driven.
The wedged under the tire method doesn't seem to work very well I've found with my convertible. As I am driving around I will start to hear clunking noises in the trunk, when I check, I find the hook has worked its way loose and is rattling around in the trunk, and the tire is now not tightly retained on the rod and is bouncing up and down as you hit bumps in the road. That is irritating with a car I drive 500 miles a year, imagine it when the cars were daily drivers!
So if the hooks came wedged under the tires when the cars rolled off of the assembly line, I am guessing they ended up quickly being attached to the jack in the trunk by the owners, or falling down into the trunk extention area soon after the car was bought from the dealer.

That what I was thinking..My car is an early 70 model built in Nov of 69 maybe after complaints of finding the tire hook flying around the trunk they lengthen the rod and came up with a different way of storing all the trunk components. My guess?

Not sure what would work the best, but don't use the stuff Totally Auto says is correct for the bracket......... because it's not.

Thanks. I had no idea that someone even sold something that was supposed to be correct, and wasn't to begin with!
