our season is at an end & we had our national series final today. while competing i found i have 2 problems developing with my car. first is my transbrake is allowing me to creep forward about 2" before it locks up & holds the car. before we increased the line pressure from 100 odd to 150 psi it would instantly stop but now it allows movement. is this my brakes(VB) fault or is something amiss with the trans? (A&A Ultimate LBA brake)
secondly my increased height 6 pak scoop is trying to rip itself off the hood. i don't think it likes 140 mph & i think i'll have to replace it with a cowl scoop. anybody else have problems with their 6 pak peeling off?

On the hood scoop you're catching a lot of air at 140 mph. That means drag plus the inevitable damage to the hood. I don't like the looks of them but you should try something reversed and a bit more streamlined.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions on your 'hold' trouble.

Beautiful car!

Can't comment on the trans problem either but we had a steel strengthening "rib" 'glassed into ours behind the centre strut. It actually broke the glass one, also it was trying to remove itself from the hood as is yours I suspect. We put in extra bonnet pins and had the areas where the scoop attaches to the hood reinforced with glass at the same time the strut was fitted. Made the hood a bit heavier but all is good now, hoping to test it at 145mph soon

I've seen were guy's have put a long stud in the carb air cleaner hole extending it through the scoop to hold the hood down, One had a small clip similar to a hood pin another had a bracket set up with a quarter turn fastener. Seemed to work

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I have a standard six pack scoop (not extended hight) glassed on a homemade glass hood, that is pinned at the 4 corners. I only run 130 mph in the qtr mile, but the scoop literly trys to lift the hood off the car, and has small cracks around the corners of the scoop. Running 1/8 mile, I don't have any problems, but only running 105 mph. I have seen others that used extra hood pins or carb studs, I really don't want to add one, but going to have to do something.
As far as the trans problem, there is no way to have consistant reaction times when the car moves that much before it takes a "set".

OK, i will take a shot at the transbrake issue. After you make sure of the two obvious potential problems. Low voltage, and bad ground. Then, do you use synthetic trans fluid? If so, try this. drain it out, and replace it with a good quality Non-synthetic fluid. It worked for me.

I cant tell from your picture if your grill is blocked off ??? The reason that your hood and like many others that start traveling at 140 to 150 is air preasure.
Air preasure underneath ( open grills at speed load the engine bay with positive air ) and a lack of air on top ( air stacks up in front of car comes over the hood causing a low preasure area on hood surface causing lift just like a wing of a aeroplane )

Do not expect that what works a 125 MPH will work at 150 MPH . I do not believe your hood scoops are so amazing they are ripping your hoods off LOL.

Try activating the T-brake solenoid a couple of times before you set the brake at the line. I usually push the button a couple of times and it works for me.

I take it you have a torqflite and if so the stock adjustment on the rear band is 2 1/2 turns out.I had similar "creep" problems and started tightening up the rear band adjustment and the problem was solved. It is easier if the tranny is out with the pan off, then by hand you can turn the input shaft and feel if you tighten it too much. What you are looking for is slight drag on the rear drum but it can still turn.If you have it in the car try a 1/4 turn tighter at a time and try.Mine trans was in our super street car then our super gas for goin on 20 years and the trans always looks new inside when apart. My brake is a Griner and my rear band is 1 1/2 turns out.Hope this helps it has worked for me.

On your scoop,I have cut holes in the back of the scoop to bleed off some of the air built up inside. I don't run your speeds but at 120mph it helps.

thanks for your feedback guys. i know it's not low voltage or bad earth, i've checked with the motor off & can very distinctively hear the solenoid click when i activate the button, i only need to depress the button 0.020 to activate & it clicks exactly on time every time so it's not electrical. the rollout is rpm relative as if the idle is low, e.g.900 rpm it rolls less than when it's high at 1100 rpm, it's just as the engine warms up the rpm tends to creep up too. i'm using dex3 fluid so i can eliminate the fluid issue. the trans is race built so i'm resonably sure it's tight tolerances on the band. we only started having this problem with the creep when i bumped up the line pressure. i'm not having much luck getting an e-mail back from A&A so i'm not 100 on the correct line press on their lba brakes. maybe i should go back ??

as for the 6 pak scoop, last season i had it enlarged to make room for the dominator. before that it survived 6 seasons with only minor stress cracks around the pins. my front end is a one piece, not just a pin on hood. within a few meetings of enlarging the 6 pak we noticed the carbon had cracked around the pins, but this weekend we could see it was cracking almost 1/8" on every pass. i'm seriously considering a long full length cowl, i know it's not mopar but to be honest, there aint that much stuff on my car that is these days, just some of the main shell, a bit of floor & the front chassis along with a 727 case. can anyone supply a pic of a dart with a full length cowl please. i know there have been pics on past posts but i never considered them an option until now so i never paid them any attention. funny how opinions change huh? cheers again for the feedback guys, appreciate it.

sure did raven, we were out of the competition so we set the tune on kill & was trying to beat our personal best, but then we were asked to take the track sponsors daughter for a ride. we were very happy with that time considering the extra weight, we know we can run a 9.3 with our smaller carb with the right conditions.

We have a meet on this weekend thats in the past been a resonable size meeting, and I must say the entry numbers are well down, must be a sign of the economys, only 11 S/G entrys. wow 2 years ago we had more than double that.

hope you sort your trans for the next outing...
