save the $ and cut 2 short 2x4s and stick them between the frame rail and spring

that way the airshocks dont rip the bolts out of the floor pan brace

it will help stops axle wrap up also

I think most parts stores carry a lift kit that bolts on to the rear suspension, would those work pretty well. They'd be the same premise as the wood block but they wont rot on you b/c of the material

Back in the 70's just about everyone had air shocks on their cars. We all used them to adjust the ride height to where we liked it. As long as they were installed right I never saw any break. In fact I had them on my 63 for about 2 years when I first put it on the road because the original springs on it sagged and I could not afford SS sprngs at the time. They worked fine and I even raced it and went as fast as 11.50's with the air shocks on the car. When I got the money I put SS springs on and took them off. I used them as a band aid until I could afford the springs. Some people just have them for when heavy loads are in the car or truck and then add air. Also alot of street car guys liked the idea that with air shocks us Mopar guys could adjust the front (torsion bars) and rear of the car to get the cool stance they wanted. Just be sure to install them corectly and tighten all bolts to the right torque. Good luck , Ron

Hmm.... I used air shocks to raise my back end up a little, haven't had any problems and seems to ride just fine.

guess you're lucky, or the B body upper mounts are more robust

the shock mount isn't designed to carry body weight regularly, at least on an A body. my duster had overload shocks on it when I bought it, and 2 broken shock mounts and egg shaped holes for the upper shock mounts...

if you want to stop sag/increase load capacity, I'd look more at some of those air bag kits that fit between the leaf and the frame rail....

Couldnt you run air shock for suspension tunning at the track? just adjust the shock seperatly? I always used an air bag, but seems like it would offer some adjustment

I ran one airshock on the pass side and would air it up to get a better launch..it would lift the front even and counter the engine torque

so IMHO,yes you can tune the shocks for drag raceing

I allways use 2 airline kits and have each shock with its own pressure,so when it rolls over a driveway bump all the air dont go to one side and let it eat the other side of the tire up

the traction bars I used later got the peg leg to lay 2 short black lines instead of 1 long black line 1/4 way down track

but traction bars are like airshocks..old skool and every one calls you dumb for useing them

I got SSM lift bars on my 440 truck now for the old skool look...might as well go get me some airshocks next

IMHO...I think the airshocks are a great idea if they are used as intended and installed correctly

but to jack it up to fit N-50s on 10" wide keystones and a ride like a buckboard not me any more...I stacked up 8 leafs per side to make some poorboy SS springs,it sat real high in the rear and it had no axle wrap up at all...was hard to spoon the brakes with that many leafs on each side but the N-50 never rubed

Add a leaf to each spring. Cost, time and effort are about the same as doing the air shocks. You do not even have to take the springs off. Remove u bolts raise axle up use 2 c clamps on the spring. Remove center bolt loosen c clamps put you new leaf in and put the c clamps back on and reassemble.
