Looking for a little fun, but hear there are some pro & cons to the different types (butterfly vs. sliders). Thoughts & recommendations?

Just bought some from Race Ready. Very nice butterfly type and has a lifetime warranty.

The butterflies work great, but stay away from the ones from Pypes. They are garbage. I had a set. I called Pypes and they said they are having know issues with them not staying shut, but were hoping the next batch would work better. Their exact words.

Fortunately, I bought them from Summit, who took them back and exchanged them for a full credit towards a pair of Race Ready's. I paid the extra $100 in price and the Race-Ready's passed the ones I returned I the mail. Summit and Race Ready Rocks! The electric motors are heavier duty on the Race Ready's too.

I added an oval megaphone and a curved section of pipe to the exit of my cutouts to blast the exhaust out to the side. It gave it a better sound too!

That looks real nice and sanitary jbc426!

You make a good point about the exit pipes affecting the sound.

What is the affect on sound with dumps closer to or farther from the headers?

With short/long exit pipes off the dumps? Anyone?

Thanks go mostly to TTI for that. My addition is minimal. I was thinking most horn'd instuments use a megaphone type horn on the end for a reason, so I figured it would be music to my ears with one on there. It does sound nicer that just dumping staight out. It kind of makes it sound smoother.

I'm not so sure how much difference changing the location near the front or farther to the rear along the system would make, but it does make some kind of difference. Mine ended up where they would fit best. I still have to fine tune the flange position, as they are the lowest point on my car.

I love my cut-outs. For a number of reasons, I'll never have another muscle car without them. I have had both types and on several different cars.

The butterfly type is the cheapest, but the most prone to issues, leaks being the biggest issue. If you go this route, avoid the QTPs. You may want to consider the McCords.

The best (and most expensive) I have seen is the Dougs slider style. That is what I have on the Cuda now, and I think they are all I will use in the future. But the Dougs do take up quite a bit more space and can be more difficult to position like you like.

Master, again and still

QTP's. Quick time performance. 6 years of reliable service. Sweet.

Doug's are the most expensive, but not by much. I wouldn't consider them the best simply because of the high cost. There are a lot more moving parts that have to be just right to work. The design is prone to problems in the long run. Like a sliding door, it wouldn't take much of a bump or bang from something hitting it under the car to affect that huge sliding tracking gate mechanisim and subsequently it's seal. Plus they are so large as to preclude their use in a lot of vehicles.

Different, yes, expensive, yes but that's about it.
