i have a 72 cuda 4 speed car that I am looking to upgrade the rear suspension on. The car currently has orginal springs on it that I am sure are sagging, but the stance is perfect. Howerver upon acceleration the car will squat in the rear from the wore out springs. So,I was looking at installing some super stock spring but was wondering if anyone knows or has a rough guess of the ride height that would result from installing the SS spring. Or if the ride height could be adjusted by getting the springs that are listed for a lighter car. Thanks for any insight

I used ss springs years ago and thought they worked real wel although my car was only around 3000lb. a friend of mine has a 67 charger that ran ss springs then went to caltracs and noticed almost no difference might have even got worst not sure also may not have had the caltrac dialed in

Do you happen to know if he was still using SS springs and Caltracs? Big no no. If you get the shock too soft, the launch will be the worst wheel hop you have seen. 1st hand experience there, 1998. As for the SS springs, I bought a used set in 1980, a new set around 1985 and another new set in 1997. I don't recall much difference between any of them. The newest set was a touch on the crude side, as far as fit and finish.

I bought my SS springs from Mancini. They are their 3400 lb springs (even though my 63 weighs 3700 lbs) and this is how it sits. It came out perfect for me as it has just the stance I wanted. The car hooks fine on them also with a 1.57 best 60 for a mid 11 car. Ron

So does the weight rating on the spring mainly impact ride height?

Anyone check how bad they are side to side? I will never again run SS springs. Mono's all the way... And for the guy with mano's, to each his own.

I have the "new" SS springs, from Mancini in Aug '08. I did have to add an extra leaf to the right side. The car felt like it was going to roll over on it's side when I launched. I had an old set of SS springs and used the 2 leaf from that set and added it between the main and 2nd leaf on the right side only. Problem solved. 11.5 tires, SS springs, non adjustable shocks (MP long, 50/50) NO pinion snubber and a Turbo Action "J" convertor, footbraking. Sitting still, the car sits up higher on RR, partly because of the extra leaf and partly because of the way I have the torsion bars set. But it leaves "square".

ok, that's cool. It seems that if there is enough hook with a particular system, any other system will be a poor return on the dollar. I personally made thousands of passes with SS springs. 11.50's, 1.55 60's. ALWAYS. When I went into the mid 10's, really inconsistent. Come to think of it, the car is still inconsistent, even with ladder bars.

Looks like I will be going with the ss springs. They seem to be the most affordable.

i'v been using ss springs in my barracuda and best 60 is a 1.49 foot brake. this is with a pump gas 408 and car weights 3360 with me.
i'v been contemplating going to cal-tracs with mono's,but not sure there would be much gain.
with the ss springs i left the original bands on the rear segments and added two bands to front segment both sides and that worked wonders on how my car hooked. i also use rancho's on rear and calvert 90/10 on front.
