I am polling to help me decide on whether I should leave the AC unit on my 69 M-code Cuda 440 in or not. I know they did not orginally come with it, but this was installed back in 1976. When I found this 41K original mileage car it had it installed (old style compressor, brackets, underdash unit, and all vintage parts. The upper radiator hose was relocated to the passenger's side to accomadate the compressor. I like the bare bones motor look, but the AC add-on seems to be a big part of the car's story line.

Let me know your thoughts.
thanks,

Probably the only M Code that someone has installed A/C!

Keep it! I love mine. After a long day in the sun at a car show, there's nothing like firing up the beast, rolling up the windows, and feeling that cool air as your idling out of the venue....while watching the other guys sweat their *ss off!

I'd keep it......since it IS part of the history of the car.

I got a 69 GTS 383 4-speed convertible for my boss that had A/C installed using all factory original parts at the dealer who sold it and it is staying! I think it is part of the history of the car and should stay. My 69 GTS had the GT SPORT stripe on one side and DART SWINGER on the other side from the factory. When I restored it I fixed the factory error, now I wish I hadn't...

I vote to keep it! History that would be gone if you remove it. Surely not another M-code A-body like it! Nice to be different and being historical to the car.

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

I'd keep the AC because AC is real nice to have... personally I'd consider upgrade to a Sanden compressor but then you would loose the "Day 2" setup.

If you do keep the "V twin" I believe Vintage Auto Air in Florida and maybe Bouchillon can rebuild the compressor with better seals if needed.

Thanks to all for your input. I was on the fence, but now have decided to keep it. Story goes better with it on and make it functional. Will likely upgrade the hoses and reroute them, but keep the old "Day 2" style compressor.
Special thanks to Dave for his references and wealth of info on these cars.

I would keep it just because it's part of the car's history and been on the car it's whole life. Plus having functional a/c is very nice. If you get tired of seeing that compressor, you can always change to an electric fuel pump and install a modern sanded compressor with the bouchillion bracket set to mount the compressor down low so you don't have to see it.

I never had A/C on my cars, but if I did I would keep it......so hang on to it in there and enjoy being "Cool"
