The balancer I have off of the '70 340 I'm rebuilding isn't broken, just well work, the rubber thats exposed on the backside is cracked and dryrotted. the tin hub was cocked a little and I was able to straighten it back down..

But I have a '74 318 balancer that is near identical except for some numbers, and the position of the timing mark.

If I relocated the timing mark, am I good to go? the rubber in it looks like new.

I clocked both of them the same and marked where the timing mark shows up

Run it... Balance will be ok, I think the one pulley bolt hole was offset on the 74 but not the 70...

I'm assuming the shallow balancing holes are just to bring each particular balancer to neutral

well, like i said, i marked them to show where the balancing marks are, since you can't see the outer edge in the pics.

Correct.. Neutral balanced

About the timing marks as long as you mark the new damper accurately thats a non-issue...

Personally I like dampers with no mark so I can accurately locate TDC with a dead stop & a degree wheel...
