I am working on a 66 Coronet at the shop that was originally an automatic on the column. I am coverting it to a floor shifted automatic. In doing so I have located a steering column to dothe conversion. This column does not have any kind of bearing or support for the steering shaft. Is this correct or am I missing some parts? Thanks for your help.

Here is the column shifted column that came out of the car.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe there is no bushing. On my 1970 e-body, the steering shaft itself is held in place by the steering coupler & steering gearbox. Positioning the plate that attaches to the floorpan is what centers & locates the larger tube in relation to the shaft.

I would think the 70 model stuff would have a lower bearing because even though it may not be column shifted, it would still have the linkage to disengage the ignition switch. I know it that way on the b bodies but I'm not sure on the e bodies.

I was looking at the same diagram on my parts manual but it is for the full size car like a Monaco or fury. The other columns in the manual are all column shifted cars. Maybe I missed something.
