My parking brake pedal does not snap back once I disengage it, plus they seem stuck at the rear wheels. Any ideas on how to fix this? Should probably rebuild the pedal assembly, any tips on how to do this so it works properly? Thanks

It's probably the cables. They get rusty and crusty from not being used.

seperate each cable end & pull the cable out from the sheath several inches from the sheath & let go & it should release on its own. If not undo/remove the cable from the parking brake strut lever and use a mini hose clamp to compress the tines where it goes thru the backing plare to remove it & soak it in your parts washer after pulling it from end to end to work some solvent inside

Spray the cable housings with WD 40 or PB blaster and let it soak in. That will usually free them up.

I took the 65s off.Soaked them in the parts cleaner for 2 days. Then used brake clean and pulled them back and forth spraying and pulling.then lubed them up real good. That and make sure the park arm that goes between the brake shoes has the small spring on them.It aids in releasing them.Rocky

unhook the end of the cable inside the drum from the lever & see if the prob is in the parking brake actuating and horizontle strut lever assy's (generally trouble free) or the cable itself. If the cable is not bound up the heavy spring on the inside end is strong enough to release it & if all good on those 2 areas check further upstream in the steel cable toward the front of the car, it goes thru the frame at 1 point

On mine (70E) there is a little plastic retainer for the spring that returns the foot pedal. It fell apart the spring would not return the pedal. Have a look at the mechanism and make sure the return spring is in position. If that is the problem, you should be able to manually return the pedal with the handle pulled and release the brakes.

I replaced the plastic part with a 3/16" flat washer split with a hacksaw. I opened it up, fit it around the cable in position with the spring compressed and bent it flat again. Works fine.
