Putting together a new short block. Going to need to decide on a cam before too long. Here's what I'm working with:
The car:
72 Roadrunner. Auto. 3.55 gears. 27” tires. 2800 stall. Power brakes
The motor:
360/410 ci stroker. 9.6:1 CR. TTi step headers. Stock top end (T-quad, dual plane, J-heads)for now. May upgrade heads when funding permits.

-Jim

I can fix it... my old man is a television repairman.
He's got the ultimate set of tools... I can fix it.

Currently Mopar-less

I have been leaning towards it. Need to make sure my springs can handle that lift.

That's the one I have in my 408. It runs decent from 1800-2500 lugging my 4spd in traffic, feels strong rolling on the double pumper from 2500-3000, and 3-5k it's pretty scary with manual brakes. It runs out of steam after ~5500. I hardly ever get it past 5k though. I took it to the track and ran consistent 13.5s before I shattered my driveshaft trying to figure out how hard I could launch. My et was disappointing till I realized I broke my throttle bracket on the first burnout and was only barely running on 2 barrels!
My combo is airgap, 1 5/8" comp headers, eddy heads ootb, 10.25:1 CR, 750dp, 4.10 gears and 28" tire in a 72 demon.

Take a ride:

With all due respect, the only thing we've got in common is the short block. Otherwise we've got completely different applications.

No hard feelings but by my figuring my short gears and tall tires cancel out to around 3.73 which isn't far off from you, also the switch to aluminum heads should cancel out around a point of compression. The sweet spot on the tach is just over your stall speed, and I have a torquey street car, not a max HP racer- as indicated by your stock heads, which have the same 2.02/1.6 valves I have with slightly less port and no quench. We both have street headers and dual plane intakes.

I see a lot of people on here with 20* more duration in their sb strokers. Maybe It would have been more helpful to just say that the 275hl cam in my car is plenty rumpety for me and the operating range and torque curve seem well suited to your trans/converter and weight.

Just trying to help you decide- good luck!

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the HE275HL.

Mildly concerned about the ability to support power brakes.
