I am currently repairing some old splices in my factory harness, and the solder that I have I cannot get to work very well. Is there something i can get at my local Radio Shack?

Are you using flux? If not you should be, not only does it help the solder adhere but it also removes oxygen from the joint so it doesn't go cold.

go to radio shack and get flux core solder no big that .060 I think. look at diameters and get the one in the middle. clean the wire first, some people use sand paper or a scuff pad. but make the wire bright copper. flush wires with rubbing alchol (sp). tin the iron apply iron heat up joint apply solder. clean when cool again with the rubbing alchol again. tape joint if your useing shrink wrap put shink wrap on first.
good luck

Rosin core solder is for electrical stuff, acid core for radiators etc. You can buy electrical rosin flux and wet the wires before soldering them with rosin core solder. I use a small butane pizo torch for most of my soldering these days. It's so much easier and faster. Once done soldering, wrap electrical tape over the splice then slide your heat shrink tubing over the tape and shrink it. Aluminum foil can be used to protect any heat sensitive items while soldering.

I use a small butane "crack pipe" as I like to call it. Works like a charm. Rosin core. Get the thin stuff.
