If it's the original 5/16, you may want to change it anyway, or even if you just want to. He's probably right that it's enough (5/16), but why not if you feel it will make things better.
I special ordered from Fine Lines, or you could also contact Inline. I had a 1/2 inch made for a 71 B that is normally not sold. The 3/8 is from a HEMI anyway in your year. You'll need to order a sender as well, you can get that anywhere. The line will go as far as the pump, you can make the changes from there, although you may have to bend your own from the pump to the carb.

Keep in mine Fine Lines and the others bend the line in 1/2 for shipping and you will have to straighten it...and it will NEVER be completely straight. If you can pick one up at a show or event before they bend it in 1/2.
The bends they put into them are very wide and gradual and very easily to get out kink free and straight. I did this with 1/2 SS that was a bear mild steel would be much easier then the SS in 1/2 but it can be done. They usually bend them in 3 areas to fit in a box it would be nice to get one not bent however shipping cost would be huge and if you pick it up yourself you better have a full size van or something close to transport the thing

well the bend in mine wasn't "easy" to remove and there is still a wiggle in the line. I would have rather had it sent in 2 pieces.

I have installed 2 of them, the bend is easy to get out without any damage.

Also depends on what you are doing. Sustained RPMs cause more fuel demand.
At Willow Springs Tim Herren's old 71 Dart with just a 360, headers, and MP 528 solid cam, 830 Holley, "ran out of gas". Now that's a road course and particularly one of the fastest and longest straights around. On the street he had no issues.
Troy made mine with large radius bend and no right angle adapters. His idea was to have smooth flow and no sharpe turns to create turbulence and cavitation. And to keep it away from the hot motor. I will be adding firesleeve insulation.
