I found out the source of my recent fueling issues. I pulled my gas tank, and it looks liek someone tried to fix it with that white coat on liner. The liner is flaking off, and the tank is still rusty inside.

Would it be cheaper to buy a new tank, or have this one fixed? Can they even boil out the white stuff? I can find tanks for a B body for $200, whihc isn't bad.

Opinions?

it will be cheaper, but you are only talking about saving 20 to 40 bucks over a new.
I would go new.

The new tanks are direct replacements - go new and you'll be good for 30 years.

I agree, new tank sounds like a plan.

Does anyone know of a good source local to the bay area, CA for a tank? Like a restoration parts supplier? Being cheap, I'm scheming to avoid shipping costs...

Since your in the east bay, there's a place in Concord called Mel & Sons on monument blvd that I've had clean up and repair gas tanks and radiators for me in the past and they did a really nice job. They were also pretty honest about stuff that wasn't worth fixing. Might be worth it to give them a call and ask them specifically about cost and removing the coating to see how the cost would compare to a new one + shipping.

Check your local REAL auto parts store , not a vatozone type store ...
