Ok, just purchased a new convertible top from a vendor here.
The car is a '66 Belvedere II convertible with what appears to be the original white top with plastic window.
The top I ordered (vendor knew when I ordered) is correct for a '67 model year with the glass back window.
I had posted on here about this before ordering and only one person responded agreeing it should work since the top frame is the same as well as the body.

Now the car is at the top shop and all apart with the installer all pissed at me for giving him the "wrong" year because the glass will not go in th well without possibly breaking.

Anyone ever done this?

I am in a jam and need some input ASAP.

any help would be appreciated!

If your problem is that the glass window is sitting/catching on top of the rear seat while the top is being lowered. I think that is a "normal" thing. My '67 Imperial, '70 Chrysler 300 and '67 Fury convs. tops all did this with their original tops. When I put a new top in the Two latter cars, this diden't happen until a couple of years passed. I think I remember reading in a owners manual to watch out for this happening, so chrysler knew about it.While lowering, I wait for the window to touch the seat back and them I push it a bit to let it fall off of the seat, then I continue lowering the top.

dilvoy! Thanks for the reply and input! I will look into that tomorrow!
I am not sure where it is interefering (did not get to visit the shop yet) but they just keep telling me on the phone the glass will not fit.

They are pissed at me because I kinda lied to then by telling them it is a '67 so they would do the top, because he insisted on the plastic window.

So if the glass touches the top of the rear seat, push it in to let it fall in?

Thanks again!

Glass rear windows need unzipped from top before lowering . I remember the owner of the Chry. dealership where I worked breaking the rear glass on a new 68 Coronet RT . the car had a factory tag hanging the drivers side top latch - stating the rear glass needed to be unzipped and layed down in the top well before the top is lowered , is that what your asking about ??

Well, yes, that is what I am asking from the top installers description.

My friend owns a '68 Coronet R/T convertible witha glass back window and he never unzips the backglass when he drops the top and we always cruise together.

Maybe as dilvoy stated, have to watch the rear seat?

I have a '70 RR 'vert. NEVER took the glass out, just lower the top & cruised. I wanted a p;lactic rear window, but the installer told me to use the glass. Never had a problem since.

The dimension you want is called the rear bow height - very important to get this right.

Most top installers should have this info...but here are some links too.

I was never even able to zip the qindow out of my 68 GTS. The installer before I bought the car got the zipper too close to the rear bow. Then when I had the top replaced the IDIOT did the same thing even though I warned him about it. And, that can't be fixed without replacing the top again. Never have had a problem with glass clearance. Same with my 67 Barracuda, but the zipper can be used on that top.

Hmmm - that is strange - sounds like not everyone is making a top to factory specs to me? I'm assuming the factory had a design spec number, which would have positioned the rear bow in an optimum place for all the other required adjustments?
If you manufacture a top with a different rear bow height I would have thought it would risk making the rest of the top liable to run out of (or be difficult to) adjustment?

But it's true I have noticed different places showing some different numbers though.

Well just make sure you have the number from your manufacturer, or get one who makes them to factory spec.
KEE are reputable, I would have thought they got theirs the same as factory....

My dad has had 3 convertibles (2-E bodies and a B- body ) all had glass windows and you never had too unzip or touch them when putting the top down.Something is wrong.

Hey everybody!

Sorry for the late reply and update.

Finally got to see exactly why the '67 top will not work in a '66.

The glass as it goes down hits the trunk hinge supports BIG TIME
The second part is the rear seat upper support is too wide and the glass hits it BIG TIME as well...

Now I am in a BIG dilemma since the car has no roof. I had to have the top installer order the correct one so this can be fixed ASAP.

Thanks again for all the inputs everyone! Much appreciated!

As a 'convertible nut' I appreciate the update on your first hand experience. Although I sold my '66 Satellite you may have saved me some grief in the future.
