When I restored my A12, I had the exhaust manifolds ceramic coated "cast iron grey" in color, then oversprayed them with orange engine enamel. They never rusted, but the orange paint then turned a dark burnt orange (like rust) color. I received several compliments on them. I recommend this for that "day 2" look.

I love the look of those manifolds. They have that "patina" appearance that I haven't seen with others.

You mean you don't like the bright cast look? LOL. I used Bill Hirsch cast coat and after a few miles they took on a more correct brown/rust look, i like it.

I'd be interested in a paint that isn't resto correct, but would look cast and hold up to the heat for my manifolds.

I like the High temp engine paint from Seymours paint.

Obviously NOT OE correct but it gives a good representation of what I feel it looks like after after the 1st week of a new car.

I've used the Eastwoods brush on paint, ,,,,,,and it looks like it's brushed on

I have tried about everything over the years and the best results I have found have been Slip Plate. It is a spray on graphite coating that is cheap but really works good. I just blasted the manifolds then sprayed on the Slip Plate( about $8 a can). You should be able to get it at NAPA stores. It is not 100 point correct but looks great. See Ya!

I have had great results with VHT high temp cast iron as well. Make sure you get part #SP998 as the #SP997 is the same color but not as high of a temperature cabability.

I used Calyx Manifold Dressing after doing some online research...its not to spendy and has good reviews...I dont know how its going to hold up yet though...but it did hold up to the 800 degree curing I gave it in my weber

I used the Eastwoods, but didn't use a brush but rather a sponge tip applicator as recommended by someone here. It was the darker of the two products and turned out nice.....with no brush marks.

...it looks lighter in the pics than it is in reality.

Ive actually used a bunch before I found something that finally worked!

Calyx smudges and gets all over everything. Wiping down an engine ruined a bunch of detailing rags I had with getting that stuff on it.

Eastwood stuff rusted through and peeled on me after about 2 mos. and even blasting the manifolds and baking them prior to painting them.

POR15 was about the absolute worst I found. Peeled within two weeks and they said its because I did not use their Metal Ready and other crap. I bought all that extra stuff and about another 4 mos. the crap started peeling again.

I also tried the VHT Nu Cast engine exhaust manifold paint, I think someone previously said it is SP-998 or something like that. It discolored from the heat in some areas but has yet to peel or even rust!

You can try everything and they all have their problems. Best way is to Jet Hot coat or some simular product that ceramic coats the manifold. Did mine 8 years ago and they look the same today as they did then. Great!

I totally agree. I have used VHT SP998 for decades and it is excellent. POR15 manifold paint is absolute junk. Falls right off.

I'm going to blast my manifolds this summer and try the gear oil trick. I assume I'll be able to spray them down with Chrysler blue engine paint when I'm done.
