Stupid question of the day:

On your typical Scat, Manley, Eagle, K1, Compstar etc aftermarket .990 pin H beam rod:

Do the pin bushings appear to have enough material to bore out to 1.030 or 1.094?

-------------------------------
Reason for asking:

-The pin bushings in my Scat and Manley 1.094 rods appear paper thin....I have always suspected they only had one little end bore size but have never known for sure
-There are a few good deals on 1.030/1.094 pistons at the moment, and the larger pin size has never really been a problem/does not really bother me
-All the piston deals are for 4.150 stroke and up, and I'd rather not grind any more than I have to (would rather use 2.200 big end, but rods with that big end size never come with mopar wrist pin dimensions)

If I have to buy a set of rods to measure, ok, but I thought maybe somebody here would know or would have both types sitting around to look at?

they make different sized bushings for the mopar pins. i personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking a .990 to 1.094. i don't think there'd be anything left of the bushing, and if there was it'd be so thin i wouldn't trust it. you "might" be able to go to 1.03

Thanks Dan.

I guess if there is enough material in the little end, the steel could be bored first and then bushings replaced with a larger OD.

Going to make some phone calls but thought I'd ask here first.

1.030 was the target.
1.094 more just for my information or possible future use.

I have a set of those pistons, 4.5 x 4.5 x 1.031, and I have been calling all of the different manufacturers and you can get a custom set for about 800.00 from K1, and its a 12 week lead time. If you pm me I can give you the contact info. I think I am going to run the 2.375 main journal stuff and see if I can get a pickup to fit. Tim

That's not a horribly bad price, thanks for the info.

Good chance of being forced into external pickup (for reliability's sake/avoiding high rpm pressure drop rather than clearance) with that much stroke anyway, maybe I shouldn't worry about it and should just use mopar dimension rods, go external and be done with it.
