kind of mis-matched combo, but it should make some power. needs more converter/gear and with a 9" slick you better have a well sorted out suspension.or be able to control the power down low. ET guess somewhere in the 10s if it hooks

10.7 - 10.8... if all goes good... I'm assuming this
is a track car... I'm curious why that duration...
seems short for a 408(strokers like duration) and
they like carb

Was thinking the same thing about both the cam and carb. Duration looks at least 10 degrees to short and it would love a 950 carb.

Guys, notice he is running only a 28" tire so he isn't too far off on gearing and converter.

When I had a home ported stock headed 408, .540 flat solid, 950hp carb, 4.56 gear, 30" tire, 4000 stall, 3500 lbs, I went 11.20 at 119.

He should be all over 10.7's.

But, with a little more gear and converter, easy mid 10's.

Thanks for all your input guys.
First, I wanted to choose that cam because I did not want to let too much pressure out, and stay around 185 cranking pressure

Second, remember that I run a 904 with a low gearset, wich make a 3.91:1 act like a 4.30!
You think it would be wrong to keep my 28'' slicks ?

What would you change?

Dan

I think with the right converter, trans and gear that the combo should be good for low 10s. My brothers car sounds quite similar to what you are explaning and it goes 10.50s @ 125 with a 28X9 Hoosier slick. You heads are bigger, cam seems more aggressive and the cubes are more than ours...I think you will go faster than 10.50s.

10.53 @ 125mph. 1.37 60 foot. Caltracs and Monoleafs, AFCO shocks.

Heads by INDIO MOTOR MACHINE; IMM.
CP Pistons, PC Carbs.

I figured between 535 and 550 HP. Should go 129 MPH+ @ 3300 lbs.

You would have been better off changing the rear gear instead of the low gearset. A drag race engine doesn't like the big rpm drop on the gear change. Make sure you get a good converter.

Mabe a all out high RPM special drag motor doesn't like big RPM drops in the higher gears changes like the 3 to 4 gear and 4 to 5th gear changes but most of the low HP(under 600 HP)automatic cars I know love the low gear sets on small tires

I dont see this combo being too far off.
Its deffenitly not perfect but....
I would say 10.5 when sorted out.

A lower horsepower engine will love the lower first gear but hate the gear change drop and the long high gear pull where the more rear gear will make the engine happier all across the board.

I think the combos pretty good except for the stall. It could be higher IMO, more like 4500 to 4800. The gearing is fine, those 9 x 28 MT ,ET tires are actually 27.3" With the 3.91, thats actually the same gearing as a 4.56 gear and 32" tire.

With that 3800 stall and 3300# Im guessing 11.0s to 11.20,s
