I'm having trouble removing the factory original paint from my 73 roadrunner. The stripper I normally use won't touch it I also tried soaking it in carburetor cleaner over night and it didn't touch it. The paint is on the hood hinges and the hood latch so I don't want to media blast it because I'm sure it will destroy these parts.

Not to be a smart a** but try sand paper, or bead blast it. Is there a reason you want it removed? most shops will just scuff things like that with scotch bright pads and repaint. the factory paint makes a good base it prepped right.

Run them by your machine shop & have him throw them in the hot tank overnight. I use to use my tank for little stuff like that all the time, just make sure nothing on it is aluminum.

Wire wheel on a bench grinder, angle grinder, or attached to a drill will remove the old paint.

i use soda or walnuts with good results. On hood hinges and springs i use fine glass.

FWIW, My hinges were media blasted w/o issue, primed and then painted EK2 for my project. No damage and I think they turned out pretty nice.

you dont have to use a super duty abrasive to blast. plastic media, ground walnut shells, or soda, as mentioned, will strip the paint, and leave the metal unharmed. get a 5 gallon bucket, and soak them in paint stripper or brake fluid, if you dont trust blasting.
