I am installing a mini starter on my small block and the upper mounting hole is bigger than the bottam one, it appears to need a special shoulkder bolt or a bushing, anybody else run into this ? thanks in advance for any input, trying to get my new stroker motor up and running !

They should be the same size. They should be a 7/16. The bottom is usually a stud and the nut for the stud is a fine thread while the bolt on the top is a cource thread.
This is the same for both big and small blocks. On my son's BB we had to heli coil the stud mount since it was stripped.

The bolt size is the same it is the mounting hole in the starter that is too big , lower hole is right size for the bolt but the upper hole is bigger, looked at a new one at the NAPA store and it is the same way, looks like there should be a shoulder bolt or a bushing to fit properly.

Just put in on. The starters nose pilots into the bell.

Thanks for the input, went out this AM and looked again and realized this same thing, must have been working too long when I got to this point, not thinking straight or to much beer ! Thanks again
