I just did one on a 69 340 block. It wouldnt go on unless you pulled back on the tensioner more than just the pin does. It was a tight fit. Took a second hand. IIRC, used a drift in the pin hole and pulled back on it. My Rollmaster chain was pretty darn tight even without it. The tensioner changed the cam timing by one degree. theres enough oil slinging around you wont need it it will be fine
