I'm currently helping a guy check out a '71 Charger R/T that he is considering buying. The first four digits in the VIN are WS23, indicating a true R/T, but the car has a column-shifted automatic. For some reason I assumed all R/T automatics were slapsticks, am I wrong?

Thanks!

I,ve seen many of the Rts, GTXs roadrunners with column shift. It does take the price down a bit on the cars that have them (resale, etc.)

I think the column shift is cool. WS23L here.

Floor shift is optional for the automatic. My '71 is a column shift. I prefer that over the squeaky plastic console.
