I have been thinking about how cool it wold be to haul a N/SS racer with a vintage looking ramp truck. I was wondering how much work it would be to build one from an old fire truck? Seems these things are usually pampered and low miles. Found this beauty http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

looks like the rear tire diameter is kinda tall to get up and over....would 1970 still be split rims?..

Has anybody been involved with building a ramp truck or know what it would cost to have one built? This thing has me thinking.

A friend and I just built one for his business. Pretty simple if you plan it out. I did all the ramp framework and welding, we had all the bed checkerplate and sides cut and bent by a local shop. I built the two main rails that sit on the truck frame on the shop floor then set and welded them to the truck. Then built on top of that. I'd estimate we had about 50 man-hours into it and about $1500 in material and shop labor.

Take a look under some commercially-built trucks to get and idea of the construction then have at it.

After reading this thread, I was thinking the same thing. Time to start looking for a truck, I think.

sorry to say .. no...I didnt bid on it. Its too nice to let sit outside and if I were to put it in my polebarn some other mopars would have to sit out in the weather. I still would like to do the ramptruck idea down the road...but not in the cards for me right now... damn.. thats a cool old truck
