I need a new pair of slicks for my car because I put a larger gear in from a 410 to a 456 and am on the revlimiter a good bit before the finish line. I have a pair of M.T. slicks 28x10.5. I am looking at the Good Year radial 30x10.5 slicks. Allot of the stockers use radial slicks. Is it true they are a faster tire? Do any of you guys use these tires and what do you think of them? Thanks for any help on this subject...

Never used radials but from what I understand they are faster but can be a pain to get hooked up. Biased slicks may be slower but more forgiving on margial tracks

I heard the same thing, however, I found the car picked up and became very consistant when I switched to radial slicks. I would not switch back. I run a 10.5 on an "A" body nostalgia super-stocker with ladder bars. The car picked up by almost 2 10ths.
Also, I haven't checked lately, but Hoosier was the only maker of a 10.5 radial, and are 30" tall.
I also did not find any more problems on a marginal track than what guys with bias ply were/do have.
Bottom line: my car went from 9.80's and inconsistant, to 9.60's and extremely consistant with just a tire change. I had also tested all the other makes of 10.5's prior to it. Hope this helps.

Just switched from 4.11 to 4.56 myself. What is your rev limiter set at?

Crizila, the limiter is set at 7200 rpm. I shift at 6600 rpm. Hope that helps.

I run 30X9 Hoosier radials and love them, no tubes to screw with. You run them at higher pressures so I don't run rim screws (I run 20 psi)They don't "grow" either. Less burnout time too. Another plus is the tread width is actually 10 inches. I've heard they work best on a 10 inch rim - I have to run an 8 rim inch for clearance.

If you want less trap RPM then you want your slicks to grow therefore stay with bias belt tires. If you are bracket racing I'd recommend bias as well as they seem to be more consistent.

I run 20-22#'s, no tubes, 10" wheel, rim screws (habit, and the bias ply were screwed, so 2 sets have holes), and a light burn out.
If you do a really heavy smoker, you will spin.
Been using them 7 years now. I can't say enough good things about them. I was originally dead set against them, but now, I'm sold.
Watching Jiles' car from the detroit area with a 9" tire and leaf springs lift the front end up 4' got me to try them. I was having launch problems, but the radials cured that.

Have you tried shifting it at 7000 RPM in 1st and 2nd gear yet If you do that you will probally end up at or below 7000 RPM at the stripe Been there, done that the motor goes into 2nd and 3rd gear further down the track shifting it higher and ends up spending les time in high gear Try that before switching tires, if your old tires are still good

Thanks for all the great input. Cab I have played with different shift points allot, I was shifting at 7000 because the cam card had the power range from 6800 to 7200rpm. My boss rented a rear weel dyno and he invited my to bring my car so I did, my car made 436hp to the ground but the hp flatlined between 6300 and 6600rpm.
The next time I brought my car to the track I changed my shift points my car went from 11.0's to high 10.80's by the end of the day.
