I have been offered a nice freshly painted 1965 4 speed 273,8 3/4 Sure Grip B'Cuda project car in a swap deal less motor, But not knowing squat about these cars I have a few ???
First, I am getting the original 4 speed, shifter ,bellhousing and flywheel, BUT no clutch or prssure plate. I do know that there was a change in 360's somewhere along the line that requires a nuetral or balanced flywheel. Where or what are the changes so I know when shopping for a engine and clutch setup?
Second, I see Cragar is making the 4 14" BNC wheels again. in 14+15". What is the widest wheel tire combo can I get under the back of this car w/o tubs or jacking it to the moon, preferably 15"?
Third, Any sites that give details on what is or is not built into Mopar small blocks (big valve or good breathing heads, steel cranks, good rods etc.) All of my knbowledge is in the later 69-72 340 motors and 40 years old and that is not saying much for my memory.

You'll need the 64-66 A body 273 V8 OE motor mounts and will want to weld a triangle piece on one of them to properly fit the 360 block ears (it's in the archives) plus a few flat washers as the 360 block ears are spaced different on one side and need either /6 (63-66 A) or 273 (64-66 A) insulators for the mounts & usually the insulators are thrown in w the mounts when you buy em. You'll need the later regular 10&1/2" 360 flywheel for it's external balance and the crank register hole is larger than the one on the 273 flywheel (273 wheel wont fit the 360 crank register). The OE pressure plate is an 9&1/4" or 1/2 iirc & I think you can run a std 10 &1/2" if you use allen head small bolts to bolt the PP to the 'wheel (I did it once but barely remem the details). I'd bolt the trans crossmember up & w a whizzer cut out a scallop to match the other side then remove it & box it for strength. This lets you tuck a dual ex up neatly as OE's never had it & if you let the one side hang it looks poor. Definitely subframe connectors. Ex will be your biggest decision. Only the OE 273 ex manifolds fit as is & they are EXTREMELY restrictive. Hooker has 1&5/8 fenderwells. 340 HP manifolds fit if you shorten the manual steering coupler and haven't tried it but using a PS col (shorter) plus the shaft extention (firm feel?) would probably work on a manual steering setup to let the shaft clear the manifold

If you change out the 273's flywheel then you will also have to swap over to the later bellhousing and you will need a Z bar to fit the bellhousing. 273 exhaust manifold ports surfaces are barely bigger than stock 360 exhaust ports openings, which means you will have to pay close attention to fitment or it will leak. Doug's headers for the early A are recommended. YOU might be able to fit the later truck Magnum manifolds, but not with power steering. I have a set that look like they will fit, but I need to actually put the engine in and see.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.
