Just wondering if anyone has any real world experience with running a SB and an aluminum flywheel on the street and how it worked out for them. I've been toying with the idea. It would be behind a pretty torquey 360 with a 3.55 rear in a '70 Dart.

Very limited experiance...had to keep the rpms up a bit more than usual. That steel flywheel stores a lot of energy. An aluminum flywheel doesn't and your RPM's will drop dramaticly between shifts.

Get used speed shifting all the time LOL! Gets a little old in a daily driver.

I have a few thousand miles on my setup w/ about a 13# wheel (see sig for combo details). It's different, but doesn't require anything more then a little time to get used to. RPM drop isn't crazy either, normal shift speed for me. Engine does rev noticeably quicker.

I have run steel and aluminium flywheels in the same Challenger with a 3.55 gear. One was a 416 stroker that made 490lbs torque, the other a 346 with a 525 solid cam. Both engines were much better on the STREET with the steel flywheel. Most notably say in a parking lot in first gear at idle engine, would roll making the car sort of buck. A quick in with the clutch and blip of the throttle cures it. Both engines would not do this surge with the steel flywheel.
Aluminium flywheel on a 440 engine and 4.10 gears that I had in a 68 Cuda had no streetability issues like the small blocks had. Cubic inches and lighter weight will make a difference.

most tuners run the aluminum flywheels as do I on my drift car - makes for much better and quicker throttle response - never had any issues - used them from 100hp - 600hp cars...

Dont want to steal this thread, but have a quick question. How much does a stock SB flywheel weigh?

I have 4 sb 130t and they all range between 32 and 35 lbs.

I wonder if a custom SB Chrysler flywheel
made of depleted Uranium-238 from Paducah KY
would allow a Ram truck
to climb a bit steeper interstate highway hills
without shifting out of Overdrive?

I know you are referring to small block but i have an aluminum flywheel in my 440 tko 600 combo and like it on the street it does take some getting used to but revs quite quickly

I've been running one on my challenger with a procharged/fuel injected 340 and a Tremec TKO for at least 7 years and over 50k miles now. It takes some getting used to but is pretty sweet. It revs like a sport bike and has amazing throttle response. You do have to pay more attention to clutch engagement but I kinda like that aspect of it. The only issue I have had is that sometimes when rolling slowing to a stop when I put in the clutch the engine will die before the efi can cacth the drop and return to idle (dfi gen 7)
