Hello,

I am gathering some parts up for a mild project here in late spring. It is an older A body with a 318 out of an 89 Dodge Van with TBI. I desire to run the 89 318 with an aluminum intake and a 4-barrel carb/ regular distributor.

1. Is the cam in the 318 compatible with a regular electronic distributor? As in I don't need to switch the dist gear do I?

2. Is the fuel pump eccentric / mount present on this block?

3. Any other EFI / 89 specific things I should know? Picture a guy replacing a typical 74 318 with an 89 and running a carb and that is me.

Thank you, ROB

use all the small stuff from the 74 on the 89 engine

no,you do not need to change the dist drive

it will have the short nose roller cam,so no mech fuel pump/may have the long nose cam and no ecentric..so a stock one will swap on...this needs to be looked at with the t-cover off

t-cover may just have the block off plate at the FP location

hughes engines sells an extender for a short nose cam to run a mech pump on the tbi cam

you can swap in any retro roller cam and use the stock roller gear/hardware

I run a lunati 60710 roller cam in my 88 318

it a premag so set it up just like the old 74 318

very ez swap and hook up IMHO
