I tried installing the 440-1 I have on my high deck bracket motor with Harland Sharp 1.6 rockers, 6 of the intake pushrods (7/16 Mantons) hit the heads Is this common? I had ran these heads and rockers on my low deck street motor with no problems using Manton 3/8 pushrods, is it the low deck angles or the diameter of the pushrods making the differences? I had to take the heads off and grind on them to get clearances My favorite thing taking a motor apart when you think you got it assembled ready to run and clearanced properly. That will teach me to switch heads after the motor is ready for the dyno 440-1 head users, am I the only one with this problem or is it common?

IMO, 7/16 inch pushrods will need more clearance with any setup. I would have mocked it up before final assembly.

The heads were used when I bought them, they had been ground on some by someone before I bought them. The pushrod did not rub at all on the 400 block with the 3/8 diameter pushrods so when i switch the heads to the 440 block I didn't have any pushrods in stock long enough to work on that motor so I mock up some shorter 3/8 and called Manton with what I guesstimated (thought) would be the correct lengths by counting and deducting the lengths of the threads exposed ( I should have ordered a checking pushrod to start with ) I did call Harland Sharp to see what amount of threads they wanted exposed under thier rockers, zreo to 3 threads max. I originally wanted to order a set of 3/8 with .147 (whatever that correct size is ) wall series three pushrods, I let Mantons salesmen talk me into the 7/16 x .095 sereis three The short 3/8 I used to mock up rubbed some but I was hoping the longer pushrods would not rub Not so lucky I even tried ordering some single tapered 7/16x.167 wall to 3/8x.120 for the intakes(the exhaust are okay), they rubbed also I ground the drivers side down this afternoon a little which fixed it , it didn't take a lot. I'll do the other head this week and put it back together BTW, I forgot to mention that I am not using offset lifters The low deck motor didn't either

how did the pushrod cups need clearencing, sounds like you had the wrong length pushrods?
