My '02 Diesel Ram now doesn't like to hold an A/C charge. Where should I look for the problem? While I'm talking of A/Cs, my '98 Concorde has the same problem. People in my area tell me it's likely leaking under the dash, it only holds a charge for ONE day. My Son's '98 Ram leaks out after a month, my old Neon would only hold a charge for around 2 months and now that I think about it my '94 Spirit leaked all the time. WHAT IS IT WITH MOPAR AIR CONDITIONERS ???? Thanks, How's your back doing? I hope better that my A/Cs are doing.

We had a good bit of evaporator problems but that dont mean yours is leaking. Have the system charged and dye tested to make sure there is no leaks anywhere else in the system. Also sometimes if the evaporator leaks you can see comp oil in the drain tube if it's a bad leak. But like I said test the rest of the system first as I have had O-rings and lines leak also. Ron

Did it hold a vacuum when tested? Evac the system good. Any residual refriderant can effect results. Test it first, vacuum it 30 minutes to remove moisture then see at what rate vacuum drops ...ie took 15 minutes to drop 2 inches. Tighten all fittings and recheck it. While checking the fittings look for evidence of a oily resisude or any dust and dirt stuck to the fittings (like batter dipped chicken) Again check for an improvement in rate of vacuum loss.

Some leaks are tough to find. I had an emtpy AC system come in that held vacuum when I tested it, I checked all fitings and snugged them up. If it was dropping it might have been an inch or so. I figured it was now OK.
It was leaking horribly from a chaffed line as soon as I attempted to charge it (it was hidden under a cover on the line).
Schraeder valves at the high and low side ports can also be the culprit of hard to find leaks. If it holds and you charge it, and gauge readings and operation check works out always check the schraeders when you disconnect your connections. Those can leak too.
